ColorCop

Review by aldo on June 14, 2009, 11:27:17 AM under Other

Website: http://www.colorcop.net/

Rating: 10/10

Compatibility: Windows

ColorCop is a very interesting program, which allows you to get the RGB and hex number of a color anywhere on your screen. I myself use it a lot when doing web design.

I don't have a whole lot more to say. It is a very simple program but it does its job well. Which is why I give it a 10 out of 10 :)

Winfox

Review by soren121 on June 07, 2009, 05:01:52 AM under Browsers

Website: https://brentf.com/blog/software/winfox-ndash-firefox-and-windows-7/

Rating: 10/10

Compatibility: Windows 7

If you've used Windows 7, you know (or you should know) that Internet Explorer 8 is tied in with many helpful features of Windows 7, like jumplists and Aero Peek. Firefox, out-of-the-box, does not have this capability.

Say hello to Winfox. Install Winfox to your Firefox install directory, and install the Firefox extension as well by dragging it into Firefox. Now, you can't keep using the Firefox shortcuts--you have to use Winfox. Pin Winfox to your Taskbar and Start Menu to be helpful to yourself.

Voila! Your Firefox now supports jumplists, Aero Peek, and window linking! And probably much more, but you can find that on your own. ;-)

Lightscreen

Review by soren121 on May 09, 2009, 02:01:11 PM under Image Manipulation

Website: http://lightscreen.sourceforge.net/

Rating: 10/10

Compatibility: 32-bit Windows

There isn't much to say about Lightscreen, so this review will be really short. :P

Lightscreen is a small open-source screenshot program that does what it says and does it right, without any bulk. It'll take shots of your entire desktop, a window, or a specified area. It'll even take shots of a DirectX app now, which I suppose is helpful if you're a game reviewer.

So next time you need a screenshot, save yourself the hassle and use Lightscreen.

Free Download Manager

Review by Schocker on April 27, 2009, 12:59:42 PM under Other

Website: http://freedownloadmanager.org

Rating: 9/10

Compatibility: Windows 9x/ME/2000/2003/XP/Vista (32bit versions only)

Need something better, than a built-in download manager? Something, which works well, and is free? Well, then, Free Download Manager is for you!

(Click, to see a bigger version.)

Free Download Manager, as you can guess from the name, is, well, Free Download Manager. :P Or, in other words, Download Manager which is Free. Okay, enough about name. Let's focus on the functions.
This download manager has everything ordinary person needs. And much, much, much(...) more. Those functions may be very useful, depending of what do you need.

Are you a:

Fan of YouTube/MSN Video/Metacafe/Whatever videos and music videos?

Download videos and convert them with a couple of clicks. You can convert them to: Avi Xvid, Avi MPEG, WMV, FLV, MPEG 1, MPEG 2, MP4, MP3 ( Really nice).

It can also be converted to a specific resolution, and to a specific quality. Really cool function, you don't have to install other programs.

Torrent maniac?
There is a very nice BitTorrent client in Free Download Manager. Nearly everything you need to download files with ease.

Web Explorer?
I mean, you  want to see, what secrets does this site keep? Exploring sites is very useful in some games. And, is nice for learning something new.

Well, the most important are listed here. ;) Just try them all for yourself.
Rating? Nine out of ten. Just... Sometimes, it just downloads a page, instead of a file, and Uploading files doesn't work (At least for me). But, still, great program! ^^

MS Visual C++ 2008

Review by Myles on April 05, 2009, 08:50:02 PM under Other

Website: http://www.microsoft.com/express/vc/

Rating: 8/10

Compatibility: Windows XP/Vista

Visual C++ (VC++) is the standard IDE (Integrated Development Environment = text editor + compiler + linker + debugger) in the Windows-platform C++ industry. It has everything you could want in a compiler, even in the free version; except for a resource editor, which is only available in the payed version.

Native Win32 code can get difficult with the free version of VC++, because not only does it remove the resource editor, it makes editing resources, difficult and awkward. VC++ does get a bit bloated however, making you get lost in the settings, but due to it being so bloated, it's very customizable.

One thing that's so good about VC++, is simply that it is the standard, thus it is much easier to find resources for then any other IDE.

Unlocker

Review by aldo on March 29, 2009, 11:32:42 AM under Other

Website: http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/

Rating: 10/10

Compatibility: Windows

Unlocker is a little program, so its got a little review :)

Sometimes a file is in use by another process or program, and when you want to delete it, and you keep getting denied, it starts to get really annoying. Recently someone told me about Unlocker, so I downloaded it, installed it, and it works great. You simply right click on the file, click Unlocker, then something like this will appear:

So you can quickly unlock the file, or kill the process that is holding you back. Its a very nifty little program, and does its job well. It gets a 10 out of 10 in my book ;)
