Why Windows Vista
Most people are afraid to upgrade or just plain get Windows Vista. Why? Most likely due to those Mac vs PC ads, just people who aren't sure themselves or people who don't like Microsoft/Windows. But hopefully once you have read through this page, you will have a better understanding of why you should get Vista.
Vista has Increased Security
Windows Vista has increased Security, as shown here, the download shows that All of Windows Vista's security vulnerabilites were fixed, and fast. If you read on, you will note that in fact, Windows XP had a lot more vulnerabilites then Windows Vista. Windows Vista had 30, and Windows XP had 54.
Vista User Account Control, or UAC For short. No doubt you have heard of this before, and I am sure people have said how annoying it is. Sure, I do agree, that from time to time, it is annoying, however it is keeping you safe.
I bet though you are wondering, what was the point of that? All I do is click Continue. How is it protecting me? Well, no doubt you are an Administrator on your Computer, and for some reason it doesn't have much use to Administrators. If you are a regular user, before it performs the task, a login prompt then appears, you fill in an Administrators User and Password, then it proceeds. It is in other Operating Systems such as Linux, all Microsoft did was go a bit overboard.
Windows Security Center was first in Windows XP SP2, however, it is improved in Windows Vista. What's new you ask? Unlike XP, Vista allows you to monitor more aspects of your computers security, such as anti-malware software detection, monitoring of UAC, and Internet Explorer Security Settings.
Windows Defender is now a default in Vista is designed to prevent, find, and quarantine spyware in Windows. It is one of Microsoft's first anti-malware/anti-virus type program stand alone.
Vista is More Useful (More Features and Extras)
Vista has some neat features that make using it a lot easier on you. Such as now, Vista updates without Internet Explorer, it finds updates for your computer a lot faster then before. Vista also has a Quick Search inside the start menu, Sidebar Gadgets and more
Improved Updating. Remember how in Windows XP and below that when you had to update, you need to go to the Windows Update site in order to check for updates for your computer? And you had to use Internet Explorer and it was SLOW. Well, with Vista that is over!
Now on Vista updates for Windows can be found a lot faster, as it is no longer Internet Explorer dependent, and no using those ActiveX controls, plus you don't have to go to Windows Update to search for them. Since Microsoft has certain "levels" of importantcy, you can choose whether or not it installs recommended updates by default or not, while of course important and critical updates are of course always installed by default. You can also easily postpone updates in 10 minute, 1 hour or 4 hour increments.
Instant Search is a new and fast way to find what you are looking for on your computer. Whether it be a file, folder or a program you can find it with ease on Windows Vista
Once you start to use Instant Search you seriously won't know how you did without it. I myself use it everyday, all the time. Their is some simple syntax you can use to be a little more exact of what you are searching for, such as FILENAME file, FOLDERNAME folder, however Instant Search also acts as Run, such as type in mspaint, hit enter, and it opens up.
Vista can run/start up your programs a lot faster then XP and before. How? I bet you are more then aware of how much resources Vista uses. It is called "SuperFetch", basically Windows adapts to the programs you use most, caching them in RAM for fast and easy access later. And yes, it is worth it as applications run faster and more smoothly!
Sidebar Gadgets are not a major feature but they are kinda neat! Their are multiple gadgets around, you can see your weather forcast, stock quotes, CPU and RAM usage, network usage and a lot more, plus most Gadgets are free.
More Helpful Help Center. You would think that this should be agiven. Obviously not. Vista has a newer and more useful Help Center. I will give you why I think it is more helpful. When I first bought my machine, I couldn't connect to the internet, so Vista Help Center popped up when I was running "Resolve Problem" on my PC. It couldn't find the problem (or at least it could not fix it) so a useful Help Popup came up and recommended I disconnect my modem from the power, wait about 10-15 seconds, and what do you know? It worked, although I felt like an idiot Vista is just full of help now.
Have a Jump Drive or SD Card? If you do then you can use ReadyBoost!
Windows will check if the Jump Drive or SD card is fast enough, if it is you can set it up so the Jump Drive or SD card acts as extra RAM, and we all know that usually having more RAM improves your computers performance
Plus Vista is Windows!
My last point, Its Windows! Why is that a point? Well, Windows has many Programs, Games etc. that work with Windows XP and below. Since it is Windows, almost all those applications that work with XP and such will work on Vista! So you don't have to worry about having to find another program like the original one, but you can get the exact one.
